Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ITC and CIC?
ITC sits partially in the ear canal with a small visible faceplate at the opening. CIC fits entirely inside the canal. ITC is larger, easier to handle, and can include manual controls and a larger battery, but is slightly more visible than CIC.
Can an ITC aid be seen when talking to someone?
The faceplate of an ITC is visible at the canal entrance when viewed from the side. However, skin-toned custom shells make it very subtle. Most people will not notice it unless looking specifically.
Does an ITC aid have Bluetooth?
Some ITC models support Bluetooth streaming or come with a streamer accessory. The faceplate size allows more electronic components than CIC. Our audiologist will show you current ITC models with connectivity features.
How long does an ITC battery last?
An ITC using a size-312 battery typically lasts 5–10 days depending on streaming and usage. Our clinic stocks all battery sizes - we recommend a monthly supply on your first visit.
Is an ITC suitable if I have dexterity issues?
ITC is easier to handle than CIC due to its larger size, but smaller than BTE or RIC. If dexterity is a significant concern, a BTE or RIC with a simple push-button design is usually more manageable. Our audiologist will assess this during consultation.
